Mailbeg: At the end of the day, aren’t we all AAAA?

I am happy to be here for another edition of the mailbag. To my surprise, there have been a good handful of responses to the call. This is exciting, but now the responsibility of completing one looms over me like a dark shadow that I can’t seem to escape. But, as Hank Hill once said, “with the joy of responsibility, comes the burden of obligation,” so now I am here to deliver on what I had promised, a heck dang mailbeg.

Was Daniel Vogelbach left in the minors too long, or not long enough because he is AAAA? America’s Least Wanted (@bummerville)

Hate to break it to you ALW, but we’re all in AAAA now. Right down to this blog giving me authority to answer questions. We’re all trying to punch above our weight class here. As for baseball, with its expanded rosters, zero fans, piped in noise, and somehow the cha cha slide still being played on the loudspeaker? It feels like everyone there, regardless of superstar status, is really going through the motions and wondering what comes next. Much like your standard favorite quad-A player.

As far as Vogdor goes, he is definitely pressing and it’s none of my beeswax, but it feels like management isn’t putting him in the best place for success. There are more people on this staff that can probably give you a more concise analysis of it, but my man has one extra base hit in 30 PAs; frankly, that’s not the move.

I think Daniel Vogelbach is cool. I once saw him making a phone call with a rose gold iPhone, so this makes me feel like a real baseball insider. I sure hope Scott Servais plays his only All-Star in 2019 more. Could be cool.

Who is the most emo Mariner of all time? -@ucancmysox on Instagram

I feel personally attacked with this. Trying to find the right way to say that emo isn’t dying your hair black or trying to tell your uncle that My Chemical Romance is better than Queen or even dramatically parking your car and laying out on a field because you heard it in a song once. But the term emo is short for emotion, and dangit if baseball players aren’t extremely emotional. The first two that come to mind are 1) Ken Griffey Jr. driving cross country to get the HELL AWAY from the Mariners and 2) my favorite Eric Byrnes riding a bicycle out of the clubhouse in front of the media after botching a bunt.

Last of Us Part II and Mariner parallels? @capturesbyjon on Instagram

Last of us Part II? Let’s do a little light googling here and oh. Oh wow. A video game! I like video games, has anybody played Animal Crossing? I think my trees are dying RN. And who doesn’t love those Mario Brothers? I bet this game is something pretty similar to that, right.

Respectfully, what is this? According to Wikipedia it is post-apocalyptic and there is probably a similarity in the existential dread that is also felt by being a Seattle Mariners fan.

Which past or previous Mariners player is most similar to each Dome and Bedlam member? Ben Milstein (@benmilstein)

Ben, I’m glad you asked this. Based on most of the Dome and Bedlam reader analytical research, we have discovered that all of our readers LOVE IT when we go meta. Self-referential material is really what makes new readers feel welcome. So in the interest of that, I have decided to do this with the caveat that I will never explain why. Something I will take with me to my Last of Us 2 grave.

  • Nathan Bishop – Seth Smith
  • David Skiba – Jay Buhner
  • Scott Weber – Brad Miller
  • Andrew Rice – Endy Chavez
  • Dan Gomez – Henry Cotto
  • Matt Eitner – Brian Hunter
  • Matt Ellis – Brian L. Hunter
  • Patrick Dubuque – Pete O’Brien
  • Ethan Novak – Dave Flemming
  • Christian Powers – Hisashi Iwakuma
  • Peter Woodburn – Tom Wilhelmsen
  • Josh Rogers – Dan Wilson
  • Scott George – Jeff Clement

Wow that was fun. Again, I will never explain myself and I don’t have to.

That’s it for now. Maybe I’ll keep doing these every other week, so please keep the questions coming to the Dome and Bedlam Twitter and Instagram accounts, or you can speak with me directly (get left on read) on either Twitter or Instagram. Do me a solid and have a fantastic weekend.
