Meaningful September Baseball

As the final week of the season approaches, the Mariners currently sit four games behind the Houston Astros and four games (who own the tie-breaker on the M’s so it is more like five games) behind the Toronto Blue Jays for the final playoff spot. With seven games left to play, sure, they have a chance. The Mariners also have a chance to best the Cleveland Indians, who they sit six games behind.

A chance is all it is. Even in this ragtag weird-ass season, the Seattle Mariners, a team fully devoted to the rebuild, managed to create just enough drama to elicit a few “meaningful September baseball” sentiments online.

Unfortunately, the Mariners final seven games are not against the AAA+ Texas Rangers, who the M’s defeated eight times this season and outscored by approximately 300 runs. Rather, it is against the only good teams in the AL West.

So yeah. Go meaningful baseball, in the most limited sense of the word meaningful.
